The Snowmen are a group of characters featured on ABC's Once Upon a Time. They début in the first episode of the fourth season.
The Snowmen are based on the enchanted snowmen from the Disney movie Frozen.
Description
Snowmen are created through ice magic. Some of them, like Elsa's snow monster, are anthropomorphic, semi-sentient beings serving as a personification of their maker's wishes, while others have no mind of their own and are merely programmed to do their maker's bidding. Ice creatures can also be created as replicas of a living person. Some ice creatures can regrow lost limbs or weapons, or grow extra appendages; Elsa's snow monster sprouted quills when it got angry. ("A Tale of Two Sisters," "Breaking Glass")
History
Elsa is born with special ice powers, which makes her capable of controlling and creating ice and cold. At one point, the Arendelle princess makes a snowman come to life. ("Rocky Road")
When pursued by Emma and Hook, a frightened Elsa seeks cover in a warehouse. Noticing ice tracks on the ground, her pursuers follow the trail to Elsa's hiding place. However, before they can close in on her, Elsa conjures a snow monster, which manifests before their eyes. Emma's gun accidentally goes off, hitting the creature, which becomes angry and chases them out. The snow monster stomps through the streets of Storybrooke, destroying power lines and sending the inhabitants fleeing. It then heads into the woods, so Emma and Hook regroup in the forest with David, Little John, Marian and Robin Hood. A fired arrow from Little John agitates the beast, to which Emma uses magic to aim an energy ball. However, Emma's attempt to counter with magic only angers the monster, who knocks her away and blows everyone off their feet. Unexpectedly, Regina intercepts the battle, saving Marian's life, by obliterating the being, and then she teleports away. ("A Tale of Two Sisters")
In order to lure her niece Elsa into the woods, Ingrid, the Snow Queen, creates a replica of Elsa's sister Anna out of ice. Elsa begins hearing and seeing "Anna". Running into the woods, she creates a whole ice bridge to close the gap between her and her trapped sister. After finally reaching Anna, an elated Elsa hugs her, to which her sister seemingly has no reaction. Suddenly, the Snow Queen appears and turns Anna into ice and withers her away into mist; revealing she is an illusion. Ingrid binds her niece with magical chains. Elsa questions Ingrid on what she intends to do. With a smug smile, her aunt states she is going to build a snowman. Mounding a vicious ice warrior into life, she sends her creation to attack Emma and Regina. After the two women cross Elsa's crumbling ice bridge, they find the ice warrior waiting for them. With combined powers, the two magic wielders defeat the creature, melting it into a pool of water. ("Breaking Glass")
