During one day in the Enchanted Forest, the Wolf accompanies a human Huntsman, who kills a deer to feed both of them. Later that night, the Huntsman takes the Wolf with him into a tavern, where patrons stare curiously at the pair. A few gossip about rumors that the Huntsman was raised by wolves and that he sheds tears over his animal kills. When one man sneeringly asks the Huntsman why he cries, the latter curtly states that honorable men cry because animals are pure of heart and not selfish and self-serving. In defense of the Huntsman, the Wolf growls threateningly at the aggressor. Several tavern men to take offense to the beast and begin a fight with the Huntsman, who swiftly overpowers them, forcing them into retreating. From her castle's mirror, the Queen spies on the Huntsman. Impressed with his fighting skills, she deems him worthy of a task she needs help with. ("The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter")

During First Curse

In Storybrooke, after Sheriff Graham begins having recollections of his past life as the Huntsman, a Wolf appears before him. Sheriff Graham becomes fixated on finding his heart and strongly believes it's not in his chest. Sheriff's deputy Emma Swan is skeptical about his claims, but helps him search. During the journey, the Wolf guides them to a vault where his heart is kept, but they are unable to locate it. ("The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter")
