  • Here we go! A new OUAT novel has been announced... and also a new writer! This time, it won't be written by Wendy Toliver but by Michelle Zink.

Here is her Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelle_Zink

"She is known for her gothic fantasy series, Prophecy of the Sisters and A Temptation of Angels" -> could be interesting?

And more importantly, this novel is going to be about Henry and Violet... in High School! Meaning it's going to be the direct bridge between the S6 finale and the S7 premiere! At least, for Henry's life! :D

I find that very exciting that they decided to use this novel to tie more S6 with S7!

    • Hmmm I suppose this rules out Wendy Tolliver writing a third book like she had hoped?

    • Mmmm interesting!

    • Wow, that's awesome! Sadly, I haven't read either Red's Untold Tale or Regina Rising so far :/

    • Cool. I feel burnt out by the companion novels (of which I only read one). XD

All cheers to Michelle and credit to Wendy, although my expectations are lowered (but that's due to the show and its weird worldbuilding and canon and not due to these quality authors).

    • Interesting. Wonder if this will include Henry and Violet's break up. Also, I hope we get either some new kids that are from literature, or at least check in with kids that already exist, like Grace, and Hansel and Gretel. Also, I wonder if we will ever get a third comic book. I really enjoy those.

Hmmm... I wonder if she just means that the story is set in SB, which is on the East Coast, and so it is like a "modern day New York" fairy tale.

    • Hope they didn't hurt themselves coming up with such a creative title. XD

Also, it won't be out til basically the end of Season 7. Sigh.

Books take time, lol. She has to base some things off of Season 5 and 6, too.

You know, I have them both within reach right now. But I've forbidden myself to read either of them until I read the book I bought before both, which is about this 12 year old autistic sheriff in the Wild West, solving mysteries. I might be able to enjoy it if I really sit down and read it, but I'm 12 pages in and so bored.

So in my closet the Once books will stay. But I can't wait to add H&V to that collection. <3 (I just wish I could add a Wonderland DVD to that collection as well...)

Ooh, it would definitely be awesome to see Paige, Ava and Nicholas. Along with Violet and Henry, they're literally the only other named children in Storybrooke.

(Not to mention, we could get a "cameo" of Jefferson picking Paige up.)

As for a third comic book, I'd love that too if they could get a consistent art style. I would personally prefer David Marquez's realistic style, especially if the third comic were to be the first set in Storybrooke. Ideally, I'd just rather Marvel greenlight a Once ongoing written by Jane, or Adam and Eddy or Kalinda, or someone connected to the show. Getting an issue every month would be amazing (and help fill in so many gaps in canon).

    • Official summary is out!

Henry and Violet finally have a chance to be alone. Granted, it's on a school field trip, but with some clever planning and strategic maneuvering, they can orchestrate their own adventure in New York City, a fairytale land in its own right.

While they search for a treasured item that once belonged to Violet's father, they are met with obstacles they could never have predicted. What they thought would be a romantic getaway ends up being a true test of their relationship. The question remains: Are they destined for a happily ever after?

Of course, we know the answer is no x) But it does sound interesting :)

The cover will be revealed on November 28th.

Interesting. Wonder if this is going to incorporate more Arthurian Legend.

Probably not, considering Sir Morgan (whom I always thought was a gender-bent Morgana Le Fay) is from A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court. It'll probably be something from that novel instead. Or it could be something as simple as a prized baseball card lol

Shame Violet didn't end up being Henry's true love. Olivia and Jared had enough chemistry that adult actors playing the same characters could've pulled it off. As much as I think Dania is gorgeous, her and Andrew don't really have as much chemistry as Henry and Cinderella.

To be fair, it looks like noone really sticks with their first love in Once. Snow had Herc, Regina had Daniel, Emma had Neal, Rumple had Milah, Belle sort of had Gaston, etc.

    • Prediction: the book will end with Henry telling Violet he's planning on dropping out of high school  (since he would be 16 in 2017, the year Season 7 supposedly takes place in, I'm assuming he didn't graduate) to travel the realms and find his own story. There's an implied invitation to join him, but after whatever they've been through in the rest of the book, Violet declines. They part somewhat amicably but with a lot of tension, leading fairly straight into Henry's 702 frustrations.

As far as we know, Charming's first love was Snow. And Henry's a lot like Charming.

But true. No one ends up with their first love.

Well, yes, but ACYIKAC is an off shoot of Arturian Legend to begin with, so most things from that book would be originally from Arthurian Legend, baseball cards nonwithstanding.

    • So, is it safe to assume this book will be canon to the Once verse, just as the other Once novels/comic books are?

    • "Are they destined for a happily ever after?" Seems like this book will be a little reduant seeing as Henry's ends up marrying Ella (his true love) and having a daughter with his wife.

Well, we know the answer will be no, but we don't know the specific details yet, which is what this book is for.
