  • So after seeing the last episode (Mothers Little Helper) and talks of the "Final Battle", I'm wondering, is this the battle that Rumplestitskin predicted in Pilot? He says something along the lines of "The child will find you—and the final battle will begin!" to Snow and Charming while in the cell.

P.S. Please no spoilers if you know any.

    • Well, the Black Fairy was mentioned since season 1 so maybe?

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • Yes.... the Final Battle was foreshadowed back in the Pilot episode.

    • In my opinion, there was nothing specific in the minds of the writers when they wrote that line in the pilot. I don't even think they would have done something with it if people hadn't asked them about it.

When Rumple said it, I don't think that they intended for the final battle to be with the black fairy , it just that she is the final big bad of the "current storyline" with all the main cast before the show either gets cancelled or rebooted. If the actors had continued with season 7, the final battle would have been with the big bad of season 7B.

I am pretty sure the intention was for the Final Battle, to be with whoever created the Dark Curse. The creative team probably decided for it to be the Black Fairy, when they saw how interested fans were, when she was namedropped in S3. Though, I feel, they should have introduced the Black Fairy, before turning Emma into the Dark One.

    • The implication is that this final battle is what was mentioned in the pilot, yes.

Technically, they had the Black Fairy in season 1 in a very unnnoticeable role and a minor macguffin based player in season 3. So, a little too subtle for them, but hey, at least they didn't scream it from the rooftops like in seaon 5A where they said Underworld in like every episode.

    • Yes, that's what they were referring to.  Not sure if when they wrote the Pilot they had this in mind, but now it is.

I think I'll disagree with the black fairy being on their minds in the pilot. If it had been the case, she would have been better developed (she got mention 3 times only and I'm not sure that it's the fairy that gave Snow the dust cause Snow had no idea who she was in 616 but whatever). She kind of came out of nowhere three years after she was last mentioned, she all of a sudden Rumple's mother even though he never mentioned it at all and it was never forshadowed, so in my opinion, the writers didn't plan her to be the ultimate big bad. I just think that now it's the end and she happens to be the villain so they tied her up to the pilot and the dark curse so it could be "full circle" or something like that.

Well, I don't think I said anything about the pilot. XD

I'm certain they didn't have any clue about the Black Fairy until season 3. I do think the writers were sort of sideline by something (Disney related properties). I do think they intended the "ultimate darkness" would be the end of the series. That's why I do think that around season 4/5 they made the Black Fairy the creator of the Dark Curse.

The Underworld foreshadowing was far too heavy-handed, it felt like being hit over the head with a hammer. On top of it all, the writers did not even have the time to properly develope, the connection between Hook and Robin Hood's lives. The price was clearly a life for a life, when Regina begged Emma to save Robin, in Camelot. Emma chose to pay the price, so she had to sacrifice Hook. However, when it came time to resurrect Hook and kill Robin, it just came across as an afterthought.

Did we ever see her as an extra or anything? Or are you referring to just mentions? I really need a rewatch XD

    • They clearly did not have this in mind when they wrote the pilot, but now they are saying that yeah, it's the battle Rumple prophesized.
