Did I hear that right?
This page is the transcript for "The Doctor". Feel free to correct any errors. If you need any help, please see our policies.
SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Present. Mary Margaret, Aurora, Emma, and Mulan are walking back to the safe haven.

Aurora: I don't know if I can do this. I'm not a very good liar.
Mary Margaret: Well, it's not really a lie, Aurora. Lancelot did die an honorable death and Cora did escape. All true. Just... leave the particulars to us. There's no reason to cause unnecessary panic amongst your people.
Aurora: I'm not so sure it's unnecessary...
Mulan: Wait. The tower. We always have sentries guarding the entrance. (drawing her sword) Stay close.
Emma: Oh my God.
Mulan: This can't be. Our land, we were protected here, hidden. How did the ogres find us?
Mary Margaret: Ogres didn't do this.
Mulan: What?
Mary Margaret: Cora did. Their hearts... they were ripped out. This was her magic... twisted and evil. We have to stop her.
Mulan: Too late. She killed them. She killed them all.
Mary Margaret: We have to stop her before she hurts anyone else.
Emma: Hey. Hey. Look.
Aurora: There's someone under there. He's alive.
Captain Hook: Please.
Aurora: It's okay.
Captain Hook: Please help me.
Mary Margaret: It's okay. You're safe now we won't hurt you.
Captain Hook: Thank you. Thank you.

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. David Nolan is standing outside Granny's Diner. Dr. Whale approaches him from behind.

David: (shaking the hand of a Storybrooke resident) Thank you very much for caring. See you.
Dr. Whale: You. We need to talk. (David punches him) Oh! What the hell was that for?
David: Sleeping with my wife.
Dr. Whale: Kathryn?
David: Snow.
Dr. Whale: Look, I didn't know. All right? I was cursed.
David: Yeah, I got it. What do you want?
Dr. Whale: So... is it true? People are saying that you're trying to find a way to build a portal back to your land because that's where you think Emma and Mary Margaret are, that they're alive.
David: Well, the whispers can stop. I have no secrets from this town. That's exactly what I'm doing.
Dr. Whale: But the land... it's... it's gone, destroyed by the curse.
David: Apparently not.
Dr. Whale: Well, you're having any luck?
David: Not yet. We're working on it.
Dr. Whale: Does that mean that all the lands still exist?
David: Possibly.
Dr. Whale: So the Queen lied to us. Again. Are you sure?
David: Remember who we're talking about.

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. Dr. Archie Hopper's Office. Dr. Hopper opens his office door, Regina Mills is standing there.

Dr. Hopper: Regina. Are you here to see me?
Regina: I've been trying to keep my promise to Henry, but it's been difficult.
Dr. Hopper: To not use magic.
Regina: It's been two days.
Dr. Hopper: That's an excellent start. Come on in.
Regina: (She walks inside.) It's just that... magic is the way I've always gotten everything.
Dr. Hopper: It sounds like it's also the way you've lost everything. Regina, this is your chance to start over, to earn Henry. (The door opens. Dr. Whale rushes in.)
Dr. Hopper: Dr. Whale, this is highly inappropriate.
Dr. Whale: Send me back.
Regina: Excuse me?
Dr. Whale: To my land. Send me back to my brother.
Regina: Why don't you check the "Missing" board like everyone else?
Dr. Whale: Your curse only brought the living.
Regina: Well, then I'm sorry for your loss. But I'm afraid I can't send anyone anywhere.
Dr. Whale: Can't or won't?
Dr. Hopper: Dr. Whale, I have to insist. Please. Go. (Dr. Whale leaves. Dr. Hopper closes the door.)
Dr. Hopper: Sorry. What you said isn't entirely true, is it?
Regina: I'm sorry?
Dr. Hopper: About the curse only taking the living. The grave of your father's here, right?
Regina: I don't care about Whale or his brother. I brought who I wanted.
Dr. Hopper: Anyone else? If you want help, you have to try and trust me. Stopping magic is a lot harder than starting.

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Past. Rumplestiltskin is teaching Queen Regina how to use magic. They are practicing on a black unicorn.

Rumplestiltskin: Now show me what you've learned. Immobilize it. (Rumplestiltskin giggles as Regina succeeds.)
Regina: There. I did it.
Rumplestiltskin: Excellent work, my apprentice. Now there's just one last, tiny, tiny, teeny, little detail. Take its heart.
Regina: Like what my mother did to...
Rumplestiltskin: Oh, to your true love. Indeed. Then you already know how it's done. (Regina approaches the unicorn. Gentle. If you do it right, no harm will befall it, unless of course, you will it.
Regina: I can't. It's innocent.
Rumplestiltskin: Nothing is innocent. (He takes the unicorn's heart. He giggles.) Now, it belongs to me. You see, when you take a heart, it becomes enchanted. Stronger than a normal heart. You're not hurting the beast. You're controlling it. Now show me you know what to do with that power. Kill it.
Regina: What?
Rumplestiltskin: You've seen it done. Now do it yourself. Show me you can take the next step in your training. Crush it. (Regina is unable to so.) Dearie, dearie, dearie. And I had such high hopes.
Regina: And I didn't sign up to kill unicorns.
Rumplestiltskin: Magic is power. Until you can take power, you're not learning anything. Do you want me to teach you or not?
Regina: Yes.
Rumplestiltskin: Then there's one simple question for you to ponder.
Regina: I'll tell you anything.
Rumplestiltskin: (giggles) I don't need the answer. You do. What's holding you back?

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. Dr. Hopper's Office.

Regina: His name was Daniel. I preserved his body with an enchantment spell. He's dead, but frozen, and I've kept him in my family mausoleum.
Dr. Hopper: Because you couldn't let go of him. If you can't let go of the past, Regina, it's doomed to haunt you.
Regina: You know what? I think this has been quite enough.
Dr. Hopper: Regina, wait. I... I can help you.
Regina: I doubt it. (Regina leaves.)

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. Regina is driving in the rain, but stops to avoid hitting a car at the intersection. She looks up sees a man standing on the corner. It's Daniel. Regina cannot believe her eyes.

Regina: Daniel? (She closes her eyes. When she opens them again, Daniel is gone.)

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. David and Henry pull up to the Storybrooke Stables in a car. It is early in the morning.

David: All right. (Henry let's out a yawn.) Come on. What's with the yawn? This isn't school. It should be fun.
Henry: I couldn't sleep.
David: Hey. I know. I miss 'em, too. Now just think how happy Emma and Snow will be when they come home to find that you've become... a proper knight. Say hello to your steed.
Henry: Is he mine?
David: This one's yours.
Henry: Really? So... how do I get on him?
David: Oh, you're not riding today.
Henry: I'm not?
David: No. There's much to learn before you hop in the saddle.
Henry: Like what?
David: Well, every morning, you'll have to muck out his stall. Then you'll brush him and feed him. After school, you'll do it again. Every day, twice a day.
Henry: That's not riding. That's babysitting.
David: Ah. Horse-sitting. It builds an essential bond... the trust between knight and steed.
Henry: Okay. But when will I ride him?
David: When the horse tells you. I'm gonna go check in on the dwarves, see how the mining's coming. I'll pick you up later. (David leaves).
Henry: (to his horse) So... anything you wanna tell me?

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. Regina goes to her family's mausoleum. She is shocked to see Daniel's body missing from its glass coffin.

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Past. The Dark Castle. Rumplestiltskin is spinning straw into gold. Queen Regina is waiting patiently.

Regina: (clears throat) Are you ready to begin?
Rumplestiltskin: Oh, I've been ready. The question is, are you?
Regina: Yes, I am.
Rumplestiltskin: Tell me why you're really here.
Regina: For power...
Rumplestiltskin: Stop wasting my time! What is it you want? Come on. You've done all your soul-searching. Now tell me.
Regina: Can you teach me, how to use magic to bring back the dead?
Rumplestiltskin: That's what this is about? The stable boy?
Regina: I want true happiness.
Rumplestiltskin: Then find it elsewhere, dearie. Magic can do much, but not that. Dead is dead.
Regina: (distraught) Then I am lost.
Rumplestiltskin: And I've had my time wasted. I'm sorry, but, uh, transcending death is beyond even my reach.
Jefferson: (appears behind Regina) I thought nothing was beyond your reach. Ah. Busy. Should I...
Rumplestiltskin: No. No. Nothing important going on here.
Regina: Rumplestiltskin...
Rumplestiltskin: Ignore her.
Jefferson: (pulls a glass ball from his bag) I got what you wanted.
Rumplestiltskin: What about the slippers?
Jefferson: Oh. Couldn't find 'em. Heard talk they'd already been moved to another land.
Rumplestiltskin: That's what I needed to get to that other land.
Jefferson: Well, come with me in my hat. I'm sure we can work something out.
Rumplestiltskin: No, no. Your hat only transports between magical realms. I need to get to a land without magic.
Jefferson: Why would anyone want that?
Rumplestiltskin: My business.
Jefferson: You want the ball or not?
Rumplestiltskin: Mmm... yes. Help yourself to as much gold as you deem appropriate. (to Regina) Oh, and, you. You can let yourself out. Our work is done.
Regina: Wait. So that's it? You're not going to teach me anymore?
Rumplestiltskin: So long as you harbor foolish notions of bringing back the dead, so long as you live in the past, you'll never find your future. Teaching you is a waste of time. (Rumplestiltskin walks away)
Jefferson: (approaching Regina) Pardon me... for eavesdropping, but I think you need to look elsewhere for assistance.
Regina: What do you know about it?
Jefferson: I hear things. Jefferson's the name, and I'm a man who travels and sees much, and I know the man who can do what you want... bring back the dead. He's, um, you might say...a wizard. I...I can bring him to you.
Regina: At what price?
Jefferson: Always a price indeed. So here's mine. Like I said, I'm a man of travels, and I've made many enemies along the way, and I'd like a royal passport so I can have free reign to traverse your kingdom.
Regina: How would I do that?
Jefferson: Well, you're the queen... aren't you?
Regina: That's right. I am. And this wizard... can he really bring someone back from the dead?
Jefferson: Well... If he can't, no one can.

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Present. Emma, Mary Margaret, Aurora, and Mulan discuss the newly-found Captain Hook.

Emma: You have seen him before?
Mulan: Yes, I've seen him around. He's a blacksmith. Came to our camp a couple of months ago. Said he lost his hand in an ogre attack.
Emma: Why would Cora leave a survivor? It's messy, it doesn't make sense.
Mulan: You think he's lying?
Emma: I think Cora tricked us before. I don't want that to happen again. (to Captain Hook) Here you go.
Captain Hook: I can't thank you enough for your kindness. Fortune it seems has seen fit to show me favor.
Emma: An island full of corpses... you're the only one to escape. How exactly did that happen?
Captain Hook: She attacked at night... slaughtered everyone in one fell swoop. When she started ripping out peoples' hearts, I hid under the bodies of those who had already been killed. Pretended to be dead myself. Must be the ruse worked.
Emma: So much for fortune favoring the brave.
Captain Hook: It was all I could do to survive.
Emma: I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. I am pretty good at knowing when someone is lying to me.
Captain Hook: I am telling you the truth.
Mulan: We should leave here, in case Cora decides to come back.
Mary Margaret: We should start searching for a new portal back to Storybrooke. I only got about five minutes with my husband, not to mention my grandson.
Captain Hook: You have a grandson?
Mary Margaret: Long story.
Captain Hook: Well, I know this land well, I can guide you...
Emma: (draws a knife and holds it over Captain Hook's throat) You're not gonna guide us anywhere until you tell us who you really are.

SCENE: Storybrooke General Hospital. Present Day. Regina searches for Dr. Whale.

Regina: Dr. Whale? Where are you?

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Past. Jefferson is taking Queen Regina to meet the man who bring back the dead.

Regina: Where is he... this wizard? You promised to bring him to me.
Mad Hatter: Indeed, and off we shall go to see him, but I warn you, be cautious.
Regina: Why? Is he dangerous?
Jefferson: Not to us. But bear in mind, he's never been to a world like this before. He's unfamiliar with our ways, with our magic.
Regina: All I care about are his ways, and if they will do what I require.
Jefferson: Well, there's only one way to find out. May I present to you... your salvation. (They turn a corner and see a man seated, sketching flowers.)
Regina: You're the wizard?
Man: (turns toward her) I prefer "doctor", but you're welcome to call me whatever makes you comfortable.
Regina: Very well... doctor. You understand why you've been brought here?
Doctor: Of course. Now... (clears throat) show me the patient. (Regina brings him to where she is keeping Daniel's preserved body. The Doctor examines the body.) It's remarkable. It's as if his last breath was drawn just moments ago.
Regina: A preservation spell. Can you bring him back?
Doctor: Perhaps. Let's take a look. (continuing his examination) It's wonderful. His condition is ideal... apart from being dead, that is.
Regina: Just how many times have you done this, doctor?
Doctor: (to Jefferson) You didn't tell her?
Regina: Tell... tell me? Tell me what?
Doctor: The procedure is experimental. Success is yet to occur. But if certain conditions are met, I'm optimistic.
Regina: Optimistic?
Jefferson: Just hear him out.
Regina: What kind of charlatan are you?
Doctor: I am no such thing. I was told the last crucial piece of the puzzle exists in this land.
Regina: What else do you need?
Doctor: A heart. It's a fragile organ, and I need a strong one. I've searched the far reaches of my realm for one with the fortitude to stand the shock of my procedure. None have survived. But they say in your land, there are hearts transformed by magic. Hearts made so powerful, they glow.
Regina: That's why you've come here?
Doctor: I need this for my work. So tell me... how do you change these hearts? How do you enchant them?
Mad Hatter: Those who practice the dark arts do it by ripping the organ out of the living while it still beats.
Doctor: Mm-hmm. And you can do this?
Regina: No.
Doctor: Huh. (to the Mad Hatter) You assured me that this queen was some powerful sorceress.
Regina: I will not use magic for evil.
Mad Hatter: Well, if you want your fiancé back, then you're gonna have to find someone who will.
Doctor: Have I wasted my time here?
Regina: No. I know exactly who can help us. I know where to get a heart.

SCENE: Storybrooke General Hospital. Present. Regina continues to search for Dr. Whale. She enters the operating room.

Regina: Dr. Whale? (She walks around the room, then walks to the operating table and sees Whale's severed arm laying on the table. She gasps, steps back and bumps into a hanging light behind her) Oh. (She moves the operating table and sees Dr. Whale injured on the ground) Whale. Whale. I know you took Daniel's body, and you took one of my hearts. Why? Why?! Did you bring him back?
Dr. Whale: I did it.
Regina: He's alive?
Dr. Whale: Yes. I brought him back, but...he's not Daniel.
Regina: What?
Dr. Whale: He's... he's a monster.

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Past. Queen Regina, the Doctor, and Jefferson are in the Evil Queen's Palace, standing in front of a fireplace.

Regina: This... was my mother's.
Doctor: How sweet, but I'm not interested in heirlooms.
Regina: Oh, I believe you will be. Listen.
Doctor: To a fireplace?
Regina: Just listen. (Heartbeats become audible)
Jefferson: (Heartbeats become louder.) Where is that coming from?
Regina: Her vault.
(The fireplace disappears and they descend down a set of steps and enter a chamber. The wall is filled with glowing, beating hearts, each in its own box.)
Regina: Take your pick.
Doctor: These are... all... hearts?
Regina: My mother was a collector.
Jefferson: Whose hearts are these?
Regina: I have no idea. She took so many, caused so much pain. It was impossible to keep track. She was a monster. (Whale approaches the wall of hearts and pulls out one of the boxes.)
Doctor: (He opens the box.) Finally. After all this time. It's perfect.

SCENE: Storybrooke General Hospital. Present. Dr. Whale is lying in a bed, sleeping. Regina is watching him. David enters.

David: What's going on? I just got a call that Dr. Whale was attacked.
Regina: You'll have to ask his doctors.
David: No. I am asking you.
Regina: I came here to speak with him and discovered he was hurt. (David gives her a look of disbelief.) It's the truth.
David: What else? What did you come here to speak with him about?
Regina: Someone from my past. I believe he's come back. Daniel. His name is Daniel.
David: The man you were supposed to marry. Snow told me what happened, and...how it was her fault that he died.
Regina: Yes. He did.
David: Well, then how could he be back?
Regina: Whale. He believed he could bring him back from the grave, and... I don't know how... but he has.
David: You don't know how? Guess.
Regina: He practices something more powerful than magic... or so I was told. All he needed was a heart, and he took one of mine.
David: You have hearts here?
Regina: In my vault. From our land.
David: Whose heart did he take?
Regina: I have no idea. I took so many, it was impossible to keep track. I need to go. I have to help him.
David: No. Where is he? Look what he did. He's dangerous.
Regina: Not to me. He won't hurt anyone else, David, I promise.
David: You know I can't take that chance. You have two choices, Regina... tell me where he is, or jail.
Regina: I think it's like when...you awoke from your coma. He's following his final thoughts to where he last met me... the stables.
David: No. Henry. Henry's at the stables.

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. Henry is brushing his horses mane at the Storybrooke Stables.

Henry: (to his horse) Gramps says that you'll tell me when I'm ready to ride you. So... anytime. Like, soon? (Suddenly, all the horses get startled. Henry's horse takes off, knocking Henry to the ground.) Aah! (When Henry opens his eyes, Daniel is standing over him.)

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Present. Mulan is tying Captain Hook to a tree while Emma, Mary Margaret, and Aurora interrogate him.

Captain Hook: I already told you. I'm just a blacksmith.
Emma: Sure you are. (She whistles.) You don't want to talk to us? Maybe you'll talk to the ogres while they rip you limb from limb. Come on. (They start to leave.)
Captain Hook: What? You... you can't just leave me here like this!
Aurora: What if he's telling the truth?
Emma: He's not.
Captain Hook: Good for you! You bested me. I can count the amount of people who've done that on one hand.
Emma: That supposed to be funny? Who are you?
Captain Hook: Killian Jones, but most people have taken to call me by my more colorful moniker... Hook.
Mary Margaret: Hook.
Captain Hook: Check my satchel. (Mary Margaret checks his satchel.)
Emma: As in Captain Hook?
Captain Hook: Ah, so you've heard of me. (Mary Margaret removes his hook and gasps.)
Emma: You better hurry up. They're getting closer. So unless you wanna be dinner, you better start talking.
Captain Hook: Cora wanted me to gain your trust so I could learn everything there is to know about your Storybrooke. She didn't want any surprises when she finally got over there.
Mary Margaret: She can't get there. We destroyed the wardrobe.
Captain Hook: Ah, but the enchantment remains. Cora gathered the ashes. She's gonna use them to open up a portal. (Ogre sounds get louder.) Now if you'll kindly cut me loose.
Mulan: No. We should leave him here to die to pay for all the lives that he took.
Captain Hook: That was Cora, not me.
Emma: Let's go.
Captain Hook: Wait. Wait! You need me alive.
Emma: Why?
Captain Hook: Because we both want the same thing, to get back to your land.
Emma: You would say anything to save yourself. Why are we supposed to believe you now?
Captain Hook: I arranged for transport with Cora, but, seeing how resourceful you are, I'll offer you the same deal, I'll help you if you promise to take me along.
Mary Margaret: How are you going to help us get home?
Captain Hook: The ashes will open a portal, but to find your land, she needs more. There's an enchanted compass. Cora seeks it. I'll help you obtain it before she does.
Emma: So Cora won't make it to Storybrooke, and we'll be one step closer to getting home.
Mary Margaret: Sounds too good to be true.
Captain Hook: There's only one way to find out.
Emma: (Ogres get closer and louder.) You tell me one thing, and whatever you say I better believe it. Why does Captain Hook want to go to Storybrooke?
Captain Hook: To exact revenge on the man who took my hand, Rumplestiltskin.

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. Henry is still on the ground of the stables with Daniel standing over him.

Henry: You... you gotta stop. Listen, you're...you're scaring the horses. (seeing Dr. Whale's blood on Daniel's hands) Are... are... are you hurt? Can I help you? (Henry raises his hand to help. Daniel sees Henry's hand coming toward him and has a flashback to Cora ripping his heart out.) Let me help you. (Daniel grabs Henry by the neck and proceeds to strangle him.) Please.
Regina: (runs in with David) Daniel! Let him go! (Daniel lets him go. David pulls Henry away from Daniel.)
David: Are you okay?
Henry: Yeah.
David: Go. Go!
Regina: It's true. You're really here. (Daniel lunges for Regina, but David pushes her out of the way and locks the stable door)
David: It won't hold for long. Can you cast a spell to subdue him?
Regina: No. I won't use magic on him. (David draws his gun) What do you think you're doing?
David: He's a monster, Regina! If you won't put him down, I will!
Regina: (pleading) David, please! Just let me talk to him.
David: It's too big of a risk. There's no telling what he'll do.
Regina: You have to at least give me a chance!
David: Out of the way, Regina! (He pushes Regina out of the way.) Now!
Regina: (hysterical) No! I won't let you hurt him! He'll listen to me! Please! Let me talk to my fiancé.

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Past. The Doctor prepares for the procedure inside a medical tent. Queen Regina and Jefferson stand outside the tent waiting. The Doctor exits the tent.

Doctor: The heart, your majesty. (Regina hands him the box with the heart in it.) Thank you. Now please, wait here. The procedure is one I must perform alone. (The Doctor reenters the tent.)
Regina: (to Jefferson) What's he doing back there? Magic?
Jefferson: He says he wields power greater than magic.
Regina: Really? Why won't he let us see?
Jefferson: In his land, there's much we don't understand, or can't. If he can't achieve what you seek, Rumplestiltskin was right. It can't be done. (The Doctor's silhouette is seen plunging the heart into Daniel's chest. A bolt of lightning strikes the tent. The Doctor exits the tent to update Regina on the outcome of the procedure.)
Regina: (expectant) Well?
Doctor: I'm sorry. I failed. The heart wasn't strong enough. It couldn't withstand the procedure. (Regina enters the tent and begins to cry on Daniel's chest.)

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. Once David has left, Regina unlocks the stall. Daniel is standing there. He starts to walk toward her. It appears Daniel is about to stroke Regina's cheek, but at the last moment, grabs her by the neck and slams her against the wall outside the stall and proceeds to strangle her.

Regina: (hoarse) Daniel. Please. Stop. It's me. I love you.
Daniel: (Something changes in Daniel. He releases her.) Regina.
Regina: Daniel. (She embraces him.)
Daniel: Oh. Oh.
Regina: Oh. I can't believe it's really you.
Daniel: (He pulls away from her, griping his chest in pain) Oh!
Regina: Daniel?
Daniel: Oh. Stop. Just stop the pain.
Regina: How?
Daniel: Just... let me go.
Regina: No. No, I won't lose you again. (distraught) Without you, I'm lost. (He fights to maintain control of himself.) Daniel. Daniel, come back to me.
Daniel: Can't. Can't.
Regina: But I love you.
Daniel: Then love again.
(Daniel changes back to his 'monster state' and tries to attack Regina but she immobilizes him with magic.)
Regina: (Devastated, she waves her hand, turning Daniel to dust.) Good-bye, Daniel.

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Present. Emma, Mary Margaret, Mulan, and Aurora are walking through the forest guided by Captain Hook.

Captain Hook: Up ahead. We'll find the compass just over the ridge.
Mary Margaret: Do you get the feeling he's leading us exactly where Cora wants us, that this whole thing's a trap?
Emma: It's definitely a trap. As long as we know they're trying to play us, we can...
Mary Margaret: ...stay one step ahead of them.
Emma: Exactly. (In the distance, Emma sees a beanstalk standing in the middle of a field.) Let me guess... the compass is up there?
Captain Hook: Oh, yeah.
Emma: So how do we... get to it?
Captain Hook: It's not the climb you need to worry about. It's the giant at the top. (The five proceed onward.)

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Past. Rumplestiltskin is training another girl in the same location that he trained Regina. Queen Regina approaches.

Regina: Who's this?
Rumplestiltskin: Ah, your replacement, of course. I needed someone more dedicated.
Regina: Dedicated? (She rips the girl's heart out and crushes it with ease. Rumplestiltskin giggles.) Now... where were we?

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. Dr. Hopper's Office. Regina knocks on Dr. Hopper's door. He opens it.

Dr. Hopper: You're back.
Regina: (in tears) I used magic.
Dr. Hopper: Why don't you come in and tell me what happened?

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Past. The Doctor and Jefferson are walking up a hill in the forest. They reach the top.

Doctor: Enough. I need to be taken home. Now. I have work to do, and I believe our deal is done.
Jefferson: The deal isn't done until he says it's done.
Rumplestiltskin: (walking up the other side of the hill)Now, now. Patience, please. Our transaction is, uh, nearly complete.
Doctor: And are you satisfied with the results?
Rumplestiltskin: She did seem rather... heartbroken.
Doctor: She is. She bought my failure.
Jefferson: You should've seen her tears.
Rumplestiltskin: I've seen the aftermath. Impressive.
Doctor: Now... my property.
Jefferson: Yeah, here it is. (Jefferson hands the Doctor a box.)
Doctor: You'll excuse me if I check. (opens box to find a beating enchanted heart) It's been a pleasure doing business with you.
Rumplestiltskin: Oh, the pleasure was mine. Thanks to your efforts, I've made my monster. Now I do hope, you'll be able to make yours.
Doctor: I'm not making a monster.
Rumplestiltskin: Sure you're not. Good luck.
Doctor: If these hearts are as strong as you say, I won't need luck.
Rumplestiltskin: Oh, just magic.
Doctor: No. What I'm going to accomplish goes far beyond magic.
Rumplestiltskin: And yet you need a magical heart to do it.
Doctor: So small-minded. I need my powers to transcend the limitations of your magic.
Rumplestiltskin: This must be quite a land you hail from if you think your abilities are more powerful.
Doctor: They are.
Rumplestiltskin: Care to wager? I suspect someday you'll see it my way.
Doctor: I doubt it. Now may we go?
Rumplestiltskin: (He gives the Jefferson the okay. Jefferson opens a portal using his hat.) Careful, dearie. Just remember, whatever it is you traffic in, it comes with a price.
Doctor: We'll see. (The Doctor and Jefferson jump into the portal.)

SCENE: Mr. Gold's Pawn Shop. Present. Dr. Whale walks in with a cooler and sets it on the counter. He opens it, revealing his severed left arm to Mr. Gold.

Mr. Gold: When they say I charge an arm and a leg, that's meant as a figure of speech.
Dr. Whale: Put it back.
Mr. Gold: You want me to reattach your arm?
Dr. Whale: Can you do it?
Mr. Gold: Of course. But first, tell me why.
Dr. Whale: Because I want to use it again.
Mr. Gold: Obviously. I meant why bring that stable boy back from the dead? Why now?
Dr. Whale: I thought... I thought that if I helped her, she would return me to my world. I want to see my brother, to try to bring him back again.
Mr. Gold: Again?
Dr. Whale: The first time ended badly. I need to return and try it once more.
Mr. Gold: Well, it seems that's rather beyond her abilities. My condolences.
Dr. Whale: Now my arm. You said you can do it.
Mr. Gold: Oh, yes. But there's a difference between "can" and "will."
Dr. Whale: Name your price.
Mr. Gold: Say it.
Dr. Whale: Say what?
Mr. Gold: You know what. You came here, not the hospital. So say it.
Dr. Whale: I need magic.
Mr. Gold: That's all I needed to hear. (magically reattaches Dr. Whale's arm) Always a pleasure doing business with you, uh, Victor.

SCENE: Land Without Color. Past. This world is black-and-white. The Doctor is revealed to be Dr. Victor Frankenstein. He enters his lab where his assistant is at work.

Victor's Assistant: Doctor. You've returned. Did you find what you were looking for?
Dr. Frankenstein: Yes. (He reveals the heart, which has retained its red glow despite being in a colorless world.) Look at it. It's remarkable, isn't it?.
Victor's Assistant: The final piece to the puzzle.
Dr. Frankenstein: I believe so. Let's begin.
(Dr. Frankenstein performs the experiment and it appears to be successful. The subject on the table raises its hand.)
Dr. Frankenstein: It's alive.
Victor's Assistant: You did it. Victor, you did it.
Dr. Frankenstein: Yes... I believe I have. Welcome back, brother.
Victor's Assistant: It's magic, Dr. Frankenstein.
Dr. Frankenstein: No. Not magic. Science.
