SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Past. A ship sails on a violent sea during a storm. A child, distressed, looks around his cabin. A lantern flickers out. He gets up.

Boy: Father, Father!
Father: (Entering the room) It's alright, son. I'm here. (He lights the lantern) See? There's nothing to be afraid of. Now, remember; whenever you feel scared all you have to do is look inside. (He points to the boy's chest) We're all braver than we think, if we just look deep enough. Before you know it you're going to be a man. So I'm just trying to prepare you. Cause then you're going to answer life's big question; what kind of man are you going to be?
Boy: (Thinks, then smiles) I want to be just like you!
Father: (Chuckles) Well that's a nice answer, son. Now, close your eyes and find that brave part deep inside yourself. (He tucks his son into bed) Hmm? You don't have to worry about a thing, your father will watch the light for you. Just go to sleep Killian. (He smiles as his son's eyes flicker) Go to sleep.

SCENE: The Enchanted Forest. Past. A young Killian wakes up and the room rumbles. He looks up and sees his father, Brennan, is no longer there. He goes over to his brother, Liam.

Young Killian: (To his brother) Liam! Liam, wake up! Father's gone! (He tries to wake up Liam, but to no avail. A man comes into the room.)
Man: You looking for your father? Look out there. (Gestures to a window.) He rowed away an hour ago. Young Killian: (Confused) Rowed away? Why? (The man pushes young Killian on the bed.)
Man: Your father ain't what you think he is. He’s a thief. A fugitive from the law. He heard there were soldiers waiting at the next port, so he bought my old rowboat and left.
Young Killian: (More confused, referring to himself and his brother) But why would he leave us?
Man: How do you think he paid for the boat? He traded you and your brother into my service.
Young Killian: (Standing up, yelling at the slave owner) No. No, he wouldn't do that.
Slave Owner: Now, you know what kind of man your father really is.
(Young Killian looks distressed and shocked from the turn of event as the slave owner leaves.)

SCENE: Storybrooke. Present. The woods. Transition to Dark Hook, as he looks at a figure approaching and we see it is Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold. Gold is carrying Excalibur.

Hook: It would appear I’ve won.
Mr. Gold: (Sarcastically) Oh, did you? Last time we fought, this sword ended up in your neck.
Hook: (Smiling evilly) You won the battle, not the war. I took the dagger from you. Now you have nothing and never will.
Gold: Watch it, pirate. (Gold slashes at Hook, who dodges and gets out of the way. He smiles cockily.)
Hook: Ah! There’s the Rumplestiltskin we all know and love! That's why Belle's left you, hasn't she? She knows just what kind of man you really are.
Gold: And what kind is it?
Hook: (Smiling cruelly) The kind that loves his power more than anything. More than her. (Referring to Neal Cassidy/Baelfire) More than your dead son. Which is why it's so bloody satisfying to take that from you. Mmm. (Smiling cruelly, knowing he is getting on Gold's nerves) Remember how good it felt?
Gold: (Not intimidated, his anger pouring over him) Power is only as good as those who wield it. And you've done nothing but parlor tricks.
Hook: (Snarkingly) Oh, is that right? (Smiling) Well, I think you're really going to like what's next. The trick where I finally get my revenge.
