Sand Dollars are magical items featured on ABC's Once Upon a Time. They first appear in the seventh episode of the third season.
History
In the Enchanted Forest, Rumplestiltskin's maid Belle is kidnapped by Cruella De Vil. Taken to Demon's Bluff, Belle is coerced into speaking a ransom message into an enchanted sand dollar, in which she asks him to bring a magic gauntlet in exchange for her life. The message is then sent to the Dark One by Maleficent's raven. When Rumplestiltskin goes to check up on Belle, she is gone. From the sky, the raven drops the sand dollar at him. Inside, he sees the imprisoned Belle who desperately pleads for him to save her by bringing the gauntlet to Demon's Bluff by midnight. ("Heroes and Villains")
In Neverland, Mr. Gold recruits a young mermaid named Ariel, who agrees to help in procuring a powerful weapon from his pawnshop to stop Peter Pan. Along with instructions for the route to Storybrooke, Mr. Gold also gives Ariel an enchanted sand dollar, which she needs to give to Belle and find the item. The mermaid puts the magic seashell in her purse and travels to the Land Without Magic, where she finds Belle in Granny's Diner. After handing the sand dollar to Belle, Ariel goes with her to the pawnshop. While studying the sand dollar, Belle triggers a projection of Mr. Gold, who implies she can find the mystery object with "the strength of their love". ("Dark Hollow")
