While mourning Cora's passing, Regina's hatred for Mary Margaret reaches a boiling point, as the woman is responsible for Cora's death. She vows to get revenge, even though Mr. Gold chides her against becoming like Cora, who could not let go of a grudge and it consumed her. Regina refuses to listen, and while rummaging through her mother's things, she finds a scroll for the curse of the empty-hearted. Believing the spell will give her both the death of her worst enemy and the love of the son she lost, Regina quickly gathers ingredients to form the spell. When Mr. Gold and David search Regina's vault, they find evidence of what she is plotting. As Mr. Gold explains to Emma, David and Henry, while Regina thinks she can gain Henry's love by casting the curse, the effects of it will only serve to make Regina believe that her son loves her. For the last curse ingredient, Regina needs the heart of the person she hates most, Mary Margaret. She tries to carry out this out, but Mr. Gold blocks her, having been charged with guarding Mary Margaret on David and Emma's behalf. Later, Regina finds Henry at the wishing well, where he is attempting to destroy magic, which he blames for making Regina evil. Henry reasons that magic has made good people do bad things, and he begs her to help him destroy magic. Regina refuses, however, she destroys the curse scroll, deciding not to cast it.
