—The Blind Witch after Hansel eats one of her cupcakes src

The Blind Witch is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. She débuts, with her only appearance, in the ninth episode of the first season. She is portrayed by guest star Emma Caulfield, and does not have a Storybrooke counterpart.

The Blind Witch is based on a character with the same name from the fairytale, "Hansel and Gretel".

Before the Curse

At some point, the Blind Witch comes to possess the Evil Queen's poisoned apple. The circumstances of this are currently unknown.

The Blind Witch lives in a gingerbread house made completely out of candy deep in the woods. Her house and the treats lure in children, whom she would cook and eat. One day, the Evil Queen bargains with two young children, named Hansel and Gretel, to find their lost father, in return for stealing a poisoned apple from the witch.

However, despite the Queen's warning not to eat anything, Hansel licks some frosting off a cupcake, awaking the witch. She tries to eat Hansel and Gretel but they trick her and lock her in her own oven. The Queen, who was watching the events through her mirror, sends a bolt of fire through the mirror and lights the oven on fire. ("True North")

Character Notes

  • She has a very good sense of smell and heightened sensitivity to the things around her. ("True North")
  • The Blind Witch has the longest gap between her first and second appearances with ninety episodes between "True North" and "Souls of the Departed".

DVD Bonus

  • On the Season Four bonus clip Three Who Stayed, it is said that she has a 23 year old daughter called Lana Lewis, brought to Storybrooke by the second curse, who works as a babysitter for Aurora's baby. The clip, however, is not confirmed to be canon to the show.[2]
