Every day since my waking has been a gift, so let me do something with it. It's my turn to help someone else.
Princess Aurora is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. She débuts in the first episode of the second season. She is portrayed by guest star Sarah Bolger, and does not have a Storybrooke counterpart.
Aurora is based on the daughter of Sleeping Beauty from the fairytale, "Sleeping Beauty".
At some point, Aurora is afflicted with the Sleeping Curse by Maleficent. Maleficent had also gone after Aurora's mother in the past. When Regina comes to Maleficent to get back the dark curse, she reminisces over how Sleeping Beauty has bested Maleficent, referring to Princess Aurora's mother.
It is unknown how she is cursed, but Aurora begins her slumber less than a year before the casting of the Dark Curse. The palace in which she slumbers is untouched by the curse as it is within the bounds of a protection spell cast by Cora along with the surrounding land. While she slumbers, Prince Phillip and Mulan journey to find her. They are frozen for 28 years while the Curse was in effect, but are able to resume their search after Emma Swan weakens the Curse in Storybrooke. ("Pilot")
Aurora is awakened by Prince Phillip with true love's kiss, accompanied by Mulan. Soon after he is marked by a Wraith, but keeps it a secret from Mulan and Aurora. He sneaks away to sacrifice himself for them and succeeds; having his soul sucked out right before their eyes. Devastated, the two women bring Phillip back to Aurora's resting place, and Mulan explains the Dark Curse to Aurora. Startled by a nearby noise, Aurora and Mulan find Emma and Mary Margaret unconscious under a pile of rubble. Mulan believes them to be the source of how the Wraith ended up in the Enchanted Forest. ("Broken")
Aurora and Mulan ride away from the palace, and take Emma and Mary Margaret as captives back to safe haven for survivors. Mary Margaret tries to make a run for it by kicking down Aurora, but Mulan uses a weapon to cut off the escape. Then, both of them are imprisoned in a pit. ("We Are Both")
Later, Emma and Mary Margaret brought out of the pit as the survivor group's leader requests to speak with them. Upon meeting the leader, Mary Margaret recognizes him as an old friend, Lancelot. To Mulan, Aurora makes clear of her mistrust in Lancelot, and still holds two newcomers to blame for Phillip's death. Mulan warns her against seeking vengeance, but secretly, Aurora holds onto a knife for later use.
Only Mulan is asked by Lancelot to accompany Mary Margaret and Emma on their journey to find their way home, but Aurora secretly follows. While Mary Margaret is left alone, Aurora seizes the opportunity to threaten her with a knife. Openly berating the woman as the cause of Phillip's death, Aurora is easily overcome and ends up pinned down by Mary Margaret. Mary Margaret states she knows what it's like to lose someone, too, but what happened is not her fault. Emma returns with Mulan to see the physical altercation, and is furious Aurora is trying to kill Mary Margaret. Mulan keeps her from getting involved and promises she will deal with Aurora herself. Later, the foursome are traveling together as a group, though Aurora is having trouble keeping up. Mulan chastises Aurora for being cold as she followed them out and should've just stayed at the safe haven. Taking pity on the girl, Emma gives her jacket to keep Aurora from freezing. At the castle outskirts, Aurora and Mulan keep guard at the gate while Emma and Mary Margaret investigate inside to find the magic wardrobe that might take them back to Storybrooke. However, Emma and Mary Margaret are ambushed by Lancelot, who is actually Cora in disguise, and through the fight, the magic wardrobe is destroyed. The four regroup with plans to head back to the safe haven while Aurora agrees to help Emma and Mary Margaret find another way home as the challenge will give her a way to channel her anger. ("Lady of the Lake")
On their return to the safe haven, all the survivors are found dead, except for one Aurora discovers beneath a pile of bodies. The man explains Cora attacked the camp, and he only survived by hiding under some dead bodies, but Emma is not buying the story and pulls a knife on his throat in an attempt to squeeze the truth out. When he keeps to his story, she ties him to a tree as bait for the ogres though Aurora believes the man may be telling the truth. After calling out the ogres, Emma and the other three women begin leaving, but the man admits he has been bested and reveals himself as Hook. Though he was working with Cora, Hook offers to join forces with them and help Emma and Mary Margaret find an item they need for returning home. Later, he leads them to a giant beanstalk, and at the very top is a magical compass guarded by a giant. ("The Doctor")
At the beanstalk, Aurora volunteers to go up as she has no one left in this world, and has nothing to lose, but is overridden when Emma prefers to take her own chances. After Emma's departure, Mulan suggests the remaining three women split time taking watch. Though Mary Margaret volunteers for first watch, Aurora would rather not sleep since nightmares are keeping her awake. With reassurance from Mary Margaret, Aurora decides to get some shut-eye.
She falls asleep, but wakes up screaming in terror. Comforted by Mary Margaret, Aurora describes the dream atmosphere of being trapped in a room devoid of windows or doors with blood red curtains and flames as another person, a man, is looking at her. Mary Margaret tries her best to coax Aurora back to sleep. Much time passes, and when Mulan sees Emma has still not come back from the beanstalk, she moves to cut it down. Aurora doesn't understand why, though Mulan's efforts are stopped after she is tackled to the ground by Mary Margaret. After Emma jumps down from the beanstalk, Aurora asks where Hook is. Emma, distrustful of the pirate, replies he is being watched so they can have a ten hour start to get ahead. ("Tallahassee")
While once again asleep, Aurora reappears in the same enclosed room being engulfed by flames. Unable to defend herself, she is saved when the other person in the room, a young boy, uses a necklace to put out the fire out. Without the blaze separating them, he convinces Aurora not to be afraid and tells her his name, Henry. Pulled out of the dream, Aurora reaches consciousness with alarm and tells Emma, with great urgency, the name of the boy she met. ("Child of the Moon")
Shocked, Emma shows Aurora a photo of Henry, which she confirms is the boy in her dream. Emma is confused as to how Aurora and Henry are sharing the same dream, but Mary Margaret knows how it is possible. She talks about her own experience in the same world of flame and smoke as Aurora and Henry after being released from the sleeping curse. Angrily, Aurora asks why she wasn't informed of this, which Mary Margaret says was necessary to keep her from worrying. They come to a group decision that Aurora should go back to sleep and contact Henry. As they are walking through the forest, Mulan notices burns on Aurora's arms and inquires about them. Aurora downplays the wounds by saying she rubbed against some poison ivy, which Mulan does not believe. Shrugging off the subject, Aurora focuses on her own determination to be helpful, and will be doing it with or without Mulan's approval.
Returning to sleep, Aurora sees Henry again amidst all the smoke and combustion. The two attempt to communicate as the flames rage and Henry attempts to notify her of the squid ink in Rumplestiltskin's cell at the ruins of the palace, which will help Emma and Mary Margaret defeat Cora. Unfortunately, she is unable to hear him and is brought back to wakefulness by Mulan during an ambush siege from Cora's undead army. Aurora and Mulan escape together, but are attacked by a group of zombies. While Mulan is pinned down by one of the creatures, Aurora is dragged away by another.
Taken prisoner in the cell beneath the safe haven, Aurora fends off Cora's attempts at gaining her trust, and refuses to eat any offered food in fear it is poisoned. Cora finds her paranoia silly, and claims her intent to keep Aurora alive so she can be traded for the magic compass. Aurora doesn't think it's a good idea since she is a stranger to Emma and Mary Margaret and they will go to any lengths to return home. Nonetheless, Cora chides Aurora may not know her companions as well as she thinks. Cora spills the tempting prospect Phillip may still be alive, and gives Aurora hope in informing her the Wraith sucked out his soul, but her beloved's spirit is now in another world. Aurora listens as Cora implies she may be able to summon Phillip's soul back if she cooperates with her. Unswayed, she refuses and stands up to Cora, who, in turn, uses magic to fling Aurora against the wall and knock her unconscious.
While out cold, Hook steals Aurora's heart with the intentions of handing it over to Cora later on. Aurora comes to and sees Hook standing over her. She immediately goes on guard, but Hook casually briefs on helping her escape to foil Cora's plans. Aurora regards him with disbelief, but he states it is true, and asks her to tel she should have trusted him all along. Aurora thanks him and flees from the dungeon. She meets up with her companions in the woods in time to break up a scuffle between Mary Margaret and Mulan. She explains how Hook helped her to escape and delivers his message to Emma. Lastly, Aurora asks what they will be doing now, to which she finds out Mary Margaret underwent the sleeping curse again to breach another line of communication, and thus, received information about the squid ink in Rumplestiltskin's old cell. Unbeknownst to the group, Cora has been controlling everything Aurora has been saying, and learned what their subsequent plan is. ("Into the Deep")
Once at the cell, Aurora discovers a parchment note with Emma's name written all over it. Upon further searching of the cell's premises, Aurora, against her own will, picks up a rock and throws it at a switch; closing the cell. Out of the darkness, Cora reveals Aurora's heart is in her control, and to prove it, she squeezes the heart. After Cora and Hook have left, Mary Margaret frees them from the cell with the use of squid ink on the parchment. Even so, Aurora doesn't believe it would be safe for her to continue with them while Cora still has her heart. Mulan promises to get her heart back and reluctantly ties Aurora to the cell bars. Aurora returns with Aurora's heart and places it back in her chest. Aurora then tells Mulan what Cora told her about Phillip's soul, and the two go off to recover it. ("Queen of Hearts")
Through unknown means, Aurora and Mulan retrieve Phillip's soul. By the beach's shoreline, the trio come across an unconscious man. They take him back to the palace and tend to his injuries as Mulan keeps a close watch on the stranger. Upon awakening, she asks who he is, to which the man responds with his name, Neal. Hastily, Aurora rushes over to bring water to him while Neal wonders where this is. She says him he is in their kingdom, and further questioning prompts Prince Phillip to tell Neal they are in the Enchanted Forest. Shocked, Neal murmurs he is back, which causes Aurora to think he's a native of this land, but Mulan points out his clothes are foreign and similar to Emma and Mary Margaret's. At the mention of Emma's name, Neal realizes they are acquainted with her as well, and tries to explain he needs to save Emma from harm. In attempting to move from the bier, Neal struggles to sit up as his wound is not yet completely healed, but despite that, he is set on finding out if Emma and Henry are alright. Aurora queries if Neal is Henry's father, and goes on to fill him in on how she once met Henry in the Netherworld. She mentions having harnessed the power to walk the dreamworld and find others like her, and it's possible to find Henry. Neal asks if she can find Emma to let her know he is alive.
Assuming a laying spot on the bier, Aurora attempts to find with Emma or Henry in the dreamworld. While Prince Phillip watches over her, Mulan and Neal wait at the sidelines and converse. A moment later, Aurora awakens to notify Neal she was unable to make contact. However, Neal recalls his father always had plans, and could have left something behind if he ever came back to the Enchanted Forest. He has hopes of finding such an item and using it to get to Emma and Henry by traveling to his father's castle. Prince Phillip raises the question of who his father is, and Neal admits it's Rumplestiltskin. While Aurora and Prince Phillip stay behind, Mulan and Neal head off towards the castle. ("And Straight On 'Til Morning", "The Heart of the Truest Believer")
At her palace, Aurora is busy straightening up and maintaining the palace when Mulan arrives back from the Dark Castle. She asks if Phillip is around, to which Aurora replies he isn't. Mulan has news to share with her as Aurora echoes the same back. Excitedly, Aurora announces she and Phillip are expecting their first child, which Mulan reacts to with shock and quickly congratulates her. Waiting to hear Mulan's news, she tells Aurora her plans to join Robin Hood's band of Merry Men and leaves. Sadly, Aurora watches her go. ("Quite a Common Fairy")
